"Villemaurine: Of Wine and Stone"
The tour begins with an introduction to medieval Saint-Émilion, exploring the historical and geological forces that shaped the village and its development over the centuries.
You will then discover Château Villemaurine and its unique setting on Saint-Émilion’s limestone plateau, where the stories of stone and vine have been closely intertwined for generations.
The experience continues underground with access to selected sections of the estate’s quarries, distinct from those featured in our wine-focused tour. These galleries offer a fascinating insight into the work of the quarrymen and the history of the limestone beneath Saint-Émilion.
Throughout the visit, you will discover the close relationship between the village, the stone, and the vineyard. The history of wine is also explored through an accessible and engaging approach, without focusing on the technical aspects of winemaking.
The tour concludes with a guided tasting of two wines, including one Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé.
